Howling Banshees are Eldar close combat Aspect Warriors. They are quick and deal a high amount of damage, but are also fragile compared to other melee units.

  • High damage, especially against heavy infantry
  • Low health, very vulnerable to ranged fire
  • Faster than other melee units, can suppress adjacent enemies
  • Deals anti-vehicle damage when fully upgraded


Howling Banshees are a "glass cannon" melee unit. They are extremely effective against heavy infantry units such as Tactical Marines, but they get pulverized by ranged fire and may be rendered useless by swarmy melee units like Hormagaunts or Chaos Heretics. They should be used in hit-and-run attacks to decimate expensive units and retreat before taking heavy casualties. Howling Banshees cannot deal with prolonged fights.

Another way of using Banshees is to have them cover vulnerable ranged units such as heavy weapon teams or Wraithguard. If some Stormboyz or the like jump in, use the War Shout to suppress them and attack while the ranged unit relocates.

Howling Banshees can be used as a "soft" anti-vehicle unit. This usually requires coordination with Warp Spiders – a haywire grenade and Banshees in its retreat path can easily destroy a walker or a tank. Fully upgrading the squad with the Aspect and Exarch upgrades is pretty much mandatory for this role.
